We are thrilled to share that Don Ross will serve as the Grand Marshal in our 2024 Candy Cane Wishes parade! A true pillar of the Springboro community, Don’s contributions span decades and have touched countless lives.
Don arrived in Springboro in 1963, at the beginning of a 30 year career as a teacher and coach with Springboro Schools. Don also served the community through with work with the Springboro Jaycees, Springboro Area Historical Society, Family Tree folk band, Star Free Press, Freedom Festival, and serving as a City Councilman. He originated Springboro’s Underground Railroad tours and helped in the renovation of the Null Historical House.
Don says, “I’d like to be remembered as a volunteer who contributed on a large scale, a teacher who cared about his students, and a historian who loved discovering and promoting Springboro’s rich history.”
Don was also named the parade’s Grand Marshal in 1993, and he says that this second time is a “great honor”. While he shares many fond memories about the early days of the parade and of our community – he reminisced about when there was 1 stop light at 741 and 73! – Don also speaks proudly about Springboro’s future.
“There is so much vitality in today’s Springboro…the city has been designed as a great place to live and to raise a family. It is a city of opportunity with a productive government and a diverse assortment among its population.”
We look forward to honoring Don Ross in this year’s parade.
One of the highlights of Christmas in Historic Springboro
